New Candidate - 2025

I’m Zion Sherin. I am running to bring back balance to Cambridge City Council.

On February 10th the city council drastically changed zoning laws. They passed six stories by-right across the whole city. This allows developers to buy up and demolish homes in Cambridge and replace them with a six-story building with rooftop party hangout spots just 5ft from the property line.

There are areas where this is appropriate, but to have it by-right across the city took away the ability for neighbors to have any say in what happens in their neighborhood. This was only the start of the upzoning, with council members proposing increased heights in squares and corridors, with talks of 18 stories high and increased height as far as half a mile from the square. These changes will not grow neighborhoods, they will destroy them.

I believe the zoning is just one example of the council putting outside interests over the needs of the residents. I am running my election people powered, not taking a dime from developers looking to influence councilors with their big checks or Political Action Committees that distract from serving the residents of Cambridge.

With a unique experience having worked in both blue and white collared jobs, I believe I offer a different perspective needed on the council. I have worked as an instrument operator for a land surveying company and worked in a distribution center both as a laborer and in management. These experiences helped me understand the needs of businesses when it comes to shipping and spend more time on construction sites than most.

I got my BS in Applied Economic and Management from Cornell University with concentration in Finance and Entrepreneurship. This education along with the roles I have held in finance help me understand the current financial affairs of the city and better prepare for an uncertain future. It always allows me to have a numbers focused approach on how we can get more affordable housing, which as a renter who would like to own property someday, is a top priority.

As a young independent candidate running without the financial support of developers, PACs, or even a political party, it’s critical that I have your support.
