Jane Hirschi is a new candidate for 2025.
All of our children deserve a world-class education, regardless of their economic or cultural background, their family’s resources or their particular learning style. Cambridge Public Schools should be building the foundation our young people need for lifelong learning. Every single student deserves school communities that challenge and support their learning.
I’ve spent my career finding ways to bring hands-on experiential learning to Cambridge and Boston classrooms. As the founder and executive director of CitySprouts school garden program, I brought learning gardens to every Cambridge elementary school and developed a program to integrate nature-based education into the school day.
As the former director of a non-profit with a budget over 1M+, I know the importance of skillful fiscal oversight. As the parent of two daughters who attended Cambridge Public Schools from preK through high school, I understand the importance of transparency and communication between schools and families. I am running for school committee to make sure children’s needs are met and families’ voices are heard.
My priorities:
- High academic expectations for every child
- Strong science education for every child, starting in the earliest grades
- Skillful fiscal oversight of the district budget
- Clear goals and accountability for the new superintendent
- Communication with families about curricular benchmarks and learning goals
